Physical will only be held one time in June for all returning athletes for the 2012-2013 school year. If you need a physical for the 2012-1013 school year, please plan on attending one of the days listed on the notice below.

Please refer to the Try out and first day of practice schedule below.

All students interested in participating in a spring sport that have played another sport at Steele Canyon this school year need to let Ms. Uto in the finance office know that you plan on participating in a spring sport. If you have not participated in a sport this year at Steele Canyon then you must download the athletic clearance packet from the Forms pull down on this website. Insurance information and physical must be turned into the finance office before you can try out and/or practice.

Spring Sports Try Out Dates and Times

TRY OUT DATES & TIMES/SPRING SPORTS

SOFTBALL: Monday, Feb. 20th at 9:00 a.m. to noon. Try outs resume Tues 2/21 –Thurs. 2/23 from 3:00-5:15. All tryouts will be held on the varsity softball field (upper field)

BASEBALL: Try outs Saturday, Feb. 18. Juniors and Seniors (with special invites) 8:00 a.m. Freshman and Sophomores-12:00 p.m.

TRACK & FIELD: Mandatory All-Comers Assessment Meet Saturday, Feb. 18 @ 9:00 on The Track @ Steele Canyon. Check in 8:00 a.m. First day of practice is Tuesday, Feb. 21^st at 3:00 p.m. on the track.

SWIM & DIVE: First practice will be Tuesday, Feb.21st at Monte Vista pool 6:00 p.m.

Only cleared athletes will be allowed in the water, but all interested are encouraged to come to this meeting/practice.

GYMNASTICS: Try outs Mon. 2/20 and Tues. 2/21 from 5:00-7:15 p.m. in the mezzanine. Regular practice schedule: Mon-Thurs. 5-7:15 p.m. in the gym.

BOYS TENNIS: Tryouts 1/21-2/24 3p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Be there all four days.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL: Tryouts are Monday, Feb 20th 3:00-5:00 p.m. in the gym for first time (novice) players. 7:00-9:00 p.m. for boys who have played before.

BOYS GOLF: Try outs – Feb 21, 22, 23, 27 and 28 @ 3:00 @ Steele Canyon Golf Course.

Scott Longerbone Named New Head Varsity Football Coach

Congratulations to Scott Longerbone. He has been selected to be Steele Canyon High School’s new Head Football Coach. He moves into the position after Ron Boehmke decided to retire after 12 loyal years of service to the football program.

According to Coach Boehmke , Scott has served for the last 12 years as the Varsity defensive coordinator and assistant head coach and is the natural choice for the job.. Before that, Scott served as the defensive backs coach for the junior varsity team at Helix for seven years.

We are all excited about Scott continuing the tradition of excellence that Ron has achieved over the past 12 years.

The Varsity Football season wrapped up last Friday night with a loss to Mission Hills High School 21 to 7 in the CIF DII quarter finals. The Cougars finish the season with a 8 and 4 record. The Junior Varsity team finished the season with a undefeated 10 and 0 record and the Freshmen finished with a 8 and 2 record.

FOR WINTER SPORTS

BOYS BASKETBALL: Try outs are Saturday, Nov. 12^th:JV & Freshmen from 2:00-4:00 p.m./Varsity from 4:00-6:00 p.m.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Try outs are Saturday, Nov. 12^th from 12:00-2:00 p.m.

BOYS SOCCER: Try outs start Saturday, Nov. 12^th from 12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.

GIRLS SOCCER: Try outs start Saturday, Nov. 12^th from 4:00 p.m. -8:00 p.m.

BOYS WRESTLING: First day to practice is Monday, Nov. 14^th in the Wrestling room and Mezzanine. Practice will be daily from 3:00 pm -5:30 pm.

GIRL WRESTLERS: First practice is Saturday Nov.12th at 12:30 in the Wrestling Room.

GIRLS WATER POLO: Monday Nov. 14th. 5:30pm – 8:30 pm at Monte Vista pool.

Boys and Girls Cross Country Place 9th at Stanford

The Boys and Girls cross country teams traveled to northern California this past weekend to compete in the high powered Stanford invitational at Stanford University in Palo Alto the 24th of September. Over 40 Division 2 teams competed. The Steele Canyon boys and girls both turned in 9th place finishes. The high lite of the day was Madison Nocon’s 5th place finish. Madison completed the 5k (3.1 mile) course in 18:40 ( 6:01 per mile).
